Powered by Human, where are we with AI

Last week, I came across the phrase "Powered by AI" on a project management website, which got me thinking about the future. How will our interactions with technology evolve over the next few years? How will we design and develop new things and more? It's fascinating to think about what lies ahead.

After initially considering using ChatGPT to assist me, I decided against it and wrote my opinion instead. Let's dive in.

Where we are

AI been all over the news over last year and what OpenAI, Microsoft, Adobe, Figma and others are doing its just amazing to see and super useful. So many people using AI in everyday life more and more. We have great tools at our disposal and best thing. Tons of them are free and ready to be used.

AI is changing how we design and think

I use AI daily to generate text, ideas, content, and structures. However, what's most important is that I'm the one who asks the questions and makes the decisions. I'm in control, and with years of experience, I know what I need and how to ask for it. You could call it a gut feeling, and I believe this will be invaluable in the age of AI.

How I use AI

  • Figjam: Brainstorming ideas, flows, and structures; Figjam is a great whiteboarding tool, and with AI in it, it is so much more powerful now to run workshops and collaborate with clients.
  • ChatGPT: Good for content generation, or you can role play and have GPT play the client if needed. You can also give it text, and it can create content for you.
  • Grammarly: My primary tool for writing stuff; things are more accurate and correct. It also uses AI to improve writing.
  • Adobe Firefly: I'm testing this tool to see if it's helpful. They still have a long way to go. But it's a good start.

Whats next

This is only begging, and things are about to change, or they already changed; I will leave this to you. For me, they are becoming essential tools in my toolset.

As with any tool, we must learn how to use them effectively. AI technological advancements can potentially replace specific jobs and processes, but AI brings many benefits to my design work as a one-person team. But at the end of the day, it's up to you to decide whether you want to embrace these changes.
